Rob Weingeist, LAc., DACM. Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

Rob Weingeist is the founder and head acupuncturist at Iowa City Acupuncture - Clinic Eight, LLC. He is excited to make Iowa City acupuncture available to his childhood community. Rob is an Iowa City native, and graduated from City High in 1998. He attended The University of Puget Sound for his Bachelors degree, and played #1 on the varsity tennis team.
Rob Weingeist, LAc., DACM, completed a 4 year Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2008. In 2017, he completed the Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine program at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine.
Rob first learned about Iowa City acupuncture when he was working as a research assistant at the University of Iowa. On his way to work he would drive by Dr. Yang Ahn's acupuncture clinic. Rob discovered he could use his FLEX benefits on acupuncture, so he stopped into the clinic. He didn't think it would actually fix his shoulder, but he thought it would be a unique experience. The first treatment Rob felt very relaxed and asked Dr. Ahn if he could teach him to do acupuncture. Dr. Ahn laughed and said that it was a 4 year degree! Rob didn't feel any improvement in his shoulder, but agreed to come back for a second treatment. Rob felt that his second treatment was less relaxing, and figured he had just thrown away his money. He went home feeling exhausted. After a 4 hour nap, he woke up with his shoulder completely pain free! The pain never returned. Rob gave his 1 month notice at work, sold his condo, his car, and moved to Chicago to start Chinese medical school.
After graduating in August of 2008, Rob moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts to begin his acupuncture practice and study Pin Sun Wing Chun Kung Fu and Medical Qigong Meditation with Sifu Jim Roselando. Sifu Jim, Rob, and his younger brother David founded the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Qigong Club and visited southern China several times.
While building his acupuncture practice, Rob became a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant and assisted internationally respected ophthalmologists at Tufts, Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, and Harvard Vanguard Visual Services.
In addition to being recognized by National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) as an acupuncturist and practitioner of Chinese herbal medicine, Rob moved back to Iowa City in 2014 and is licensed by the Iowa Board of Medicine to practice acupuncture. He loves to see Iowa City acupuncture becoming more and more popular!
Playing competitive tennis (and teaching it) from childhood through college, Rob had become very knowledgeable in proper weight training, and nutrition, for injury prevention and rehab.
Rob has evolved his knowledge with his extensive training in eastern methods of qigong meditation, Chinese martial arts, and eastern nutrition practices.
With his experiences working in western medical settings (and growing up in a family of ophthalmologists), Rob believes an integrative approach to healing is often most effective. He has many patients who see him in addition to seeing their chiropractor, physical therapist, and massage therapist.
In his leisure time, Rob loves traveling both inside the USA and abroad. He enjoys playing tennis, pickup basketball, and golf. Rob is currently teaching medical qigong meditation and Wing Chun kung fu in Iowa City.
