10 Reasons Women Should Try Acupuncture. In today’s world, women are always on the go. We are constantly putting out fires, dropping kids off somewhere, managing a high power job and trying to cook a healthy meal to boot! It can be hard to try and juggle it all. If we aren’t careful we can suffer from burnout, anxiety, depression and a whole slew of health symptoms that go down with the ship. Here are just a few ways that acupuncture can help with many issues modern women face.

1. Stress Management

Let’s face it, we all have stress. Stress in our job, stress in our relationships and stress with our homes. The key is how it is managed. There have been so many studies on how stress is harmful to the body that I won’t even go into that on here. There’s a reason that stress is at the top of the list. It is the number one cause of most issues that we see come through the door at our clinic. Studies show that regular acupuncture can lower your blood pressure and can help with anxiety based panic attacks.

2. Emotional Wellbeing

If you are one of the 12 million women in the US with depression, acupuncture may be right for you. Studies have show that acupuncture can be just as effective as anti-depressants and can help alleviate some of the side effects of these drugs. Acupuncture has many  benefits for women suffering from mood disorders of all types. Cupping massage is also an effective treatment for anxiety and depression.

3. Menstrual Issues

In Chinese Medicine, if there is a pain it is because the blood is not free flowing which can mean blood clots. Women definitely know what I’m talking about here. Acupuncture can help with the pain associated with menstruation but also PMS symptoms and to achieve a regular cycle.

4. Infertility

Which brings us to a very common problem in the US. Something we see in the clinic every week. Infertility can affect people of all ages and can be devasting to a women’s psychological state. Getting your cycle regulated is the first step in treating infertility. Directing the blood flow to the reproductive organs is a big player. Addictions, stress, poor diet and lack of exercise are all things that can be treated with acupuncture.

5. Pregnancy Symptoms

Pregnancy is a wonderful, beautiful time in a woman’s life. The symptoms, though, can be a drag. Acupuncture is especially helpful for any pain that is associated with pregnancy. Women can often have lower back and pelvic pain during pregnancy.  Headaches, sleep problems, and morning sickness can all be treated with acupuncture. If desired, acupuncture/acupressure can help naturally induce labor when the time is appropriate.

6. Menopause

We have several women in the clinic who use Traditional Chinese Medicine for menopausal symptoms. Hot flashes, anxiety, and insomnia are all common for women of this age. We also prescribe Chinese herbs in our clinic for these issues.

7. Prevention of Disease

The key to living a healthy, happy life involves preventative maintenance. Western medicine can be trauma based and not focus on whole body wellness.  We have many clients who work at the University of Iowa hospitals, who use their flex benefits to get regular acupuncture. Regular acupuncture can help boost your immune system and lower your stress levels making you less susceptible to cold and flu and so you can bounce back from illness or injury quickly.
8. Sleep Problems

Several clinical studies have shown that acupuncture is effective for treating sleep disorders. We frequently have people who fall asleep during their acupuncture sessions. Acupuncture is a very therapeutic experience and works to treat the root cause of the disorder. The great thing about a session is that multiple ailments can be treated at once especially if they are related, for instance, sleep disorders, anxiety, and depression.

9. Skin Rejuvenation

Acupuncture has been used in China for thousands of years for beautiful skin. Generating blood flow to the face is a great way to diminish fine lines and wrinkles. Years can be taken off of your face as well as reducing puffiness or circles under the eyes. It’s amazing what stimulating the circulatory system can do for your appearance and your state of mind too! Chinese medicine is also great for anyone suffering from acne, psoriasis or eczema. We have some amazing topicals that we prescribe for all skin ailments from cuts and wounds to dandruff and acne.

10. Weight Loss

Acupuncture can have a great impact on people trying to lose weight. Sometimes a patient will come in for one thing and weight loss will just be a side effect! Even the media has picked up on the hype with Dr. OZ touting its benefits. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a whole body approach to health, everything is connected. We treat the underlying reasons for the weight gain and develop a treatment that works for you. We also have herbal formulas that can speed the metabolism. With a great diet and exercise, acupuncture can greatly improve your weight loss. These are 10 Reasons Women Should Try Acupuncture
